Card. Parolin regards Church a bridge in Sri Lanka

If there is any place where the role of a bridge is most apt, it is in Sri Lanka, and it is the Church in the ‎country.  ‎Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, made the observation in an interview to ‎Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, Vatican Radio and Vatican television CTV, ahead of the ‎visit of Pope Francis to Sri Lanka and the Philippines next week.  After visiting the island nation, Jan. ‎‎13-15, the Holy Father will fly to the Philippines from where he will return to the Vatican, Jan. 19.    The Sinhalese who

This Sunday we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family of Nazareth, and it could be helpful for us to think about the hints Pope Francis gave on this subject during his Audience last Wednesday. He has inaugurated a new cycle of audiences with this subject, in order to interiorize and be better prepared for the next episcopal synod. Francis wanted to start exactly from the contemplation of the Holy Family of Nazareth – “The incarnation of the Son of God represents a new beginning in the universal history of men and women. And this new beginning starts in the bosom of a family, in Nazareth. Jesus was born in a family. He could have come spectacularly,

Holy Christmas 2014

The Word became flesh

and made his dwelling among us.

We have seen his glory,

the glory of the one and only Son,

who came from the Father,

full of grace and truth.

(John 1:14)

Eventually Christmas.

Today the Word becomes flesh, today joy, peace and consolation fill our hearts. Two thousand years ago you needed good eyes to recognize and contemplate the glory of the Christ, come to the world in the normality of a day like many others, and in the

“We’re approaching apace to the great solemnity of Holy Christmas. This is the solemnity that shakes, gladdens and comfort the human race while waiting new graces, peace and consolation from the infant Redeemer”. (Mother Caiani, circular letter Holy Christmas 1914)

Mother Caiani gives us back the meaning of Christmas. The feast that shakes us and has in itself the seed of joy and consolation – the Lord becomes our next, our bread, he becomes visible, meal, and unfortunately also mistreated.

But in this time of Advent, are cultivating the Joy of the Lord that comes and shakes us, and turns us into new people, glad in the joy? Where’s our joy and what’s it brought by? Are we overwhelmed this year, too, by all these stroboscopic Christmas lights that hide and fog the real meaning of Christmas instead of amplifying it?

Only the infant Redeemer can give us peace and consolation, writes Mother Caiani. At

Remember that a “Minima” comes from the contemplation and the experience of God’s merciful love (CeCE p.4).

Guided by this deep faith, developed by experiencing and contemplating the endless mercy of God, Marianna ended her long, deep and intense vocational journey by wearing the habit together with five companions of hers. It was December 15th 1902 - the foundation day of the Istituto delle Minime del Sacro Cuore.

Conscious of the importance of her calling she used to repeat to her sisters – “Remember, my dearest daughters, the kind of love Jesus loved us! May we be eternally grateful to Him for calling us as favorite souls and lovers of His Heart”. A hundred and twelve years have passed from that day and the journey still continues.
